Hi there. My name is Lis, I am 19 years old, and I live in København. I am English and i moved to Denmark 5 months ago. I love dogs very much, and I brought my dog with me from England. He is a 2 year old Border Collie called Beau, and he is also quite special because his colour is Red Merle. He is very inteligent, quite nervous outdoors but very loyal and a good friend. I have owned him since he was a 10 week old puppy. Back in England, I had a second dog who now lives with my father. She is a Dalmatian, liver spotted, and her name is Shanzi. She is 8 years old, and I miss her very much. I also have some other animals here with me, a cat, a rabbit and 9 giant african snails. It is a zoo in this home!

I am sorry that this post is in English... my Danish is quite bad so far, but I learn more all the time. I can read some Danish though. I look forward to talking to people who love dogs as much as I do :D

Here is a picture of Beau:

In England we went to obedience training. Over there the kennel club has a scheme of tests and rewards for pet dogs, we took a few exams of these. Over in denmark I havnt yet done any training, mainly because i think it could be hard to join a club without speaking danish? But i would love to do obedience or agility with him. I also really enjoy practicing heelwork to music (doggy dancing) with him, this is becoming quite a big sport in UK, im sure everyone sees Mary Ray's dogs at crufts! I think its very fun.

I can understand some danish- the simpler the better, but currently english is a lot easier. If there is something that you cannot type in english danish is ok though, i just get my boyfriend to translate things to me if i dont understand :)

Welcome :)

That really is a beautiful colour - Merle, right? I heard that some chihuahua owners are trying to breed in that colour, but few know that it causes a lot of diseases in races who aren't naturally born with this colour..

Heard about a lot of deaf and blind chihuahua puppies with that colour - but I can understand why people are attracted to it.. It looks gorgeous on your Beau, when it's seen on a dog who carries the colour naturally it really is quite beautiful..

But again, welcome - always nice to see another dedicated dogowner :D

Hej og velkommen til forummet :)

This forum has become quite international, that´s nice.

Those giant african snails you´ve got, how big are they? Can you show us a picture?

In my garden we go snail-hunting in the summertime, I´m afraid you will see that a lot in Denmark. Because we have had an "invasion" of what we call "killer-snails". Some Iberian snails have moved to Denmark, and have caused problems, perhaps you have heard about them?

But I´m sure your pet-snails are quite awesome and hugable

Thanks for all the nice comments about Beau. He is quite an unusual colour. When i went to see the litter of puppies he was the only merle, all the other puppies were red and white, and black and white tri. He stood out a lot though, because he had a lovely coat of fur and the most beautiful blue eyes. I will try and find a puppy picture to show you.

In dk I am working in a shop that sells English and south african foods in copenhagen. Its pretty nice, I know a lot about all the products because i grew up with them. I hope perhaps to study in the future but im not too sure yet, I would like to work as a veterinary nurse or something similar at some point.

I will take some pictures of the giant snails tonight, they really are quite sweet and cuddly, in a slimy sort of way! I got some of them from my old work in a laboratory back in England, when they were only about the size of a 1 kroner coin, now they are a lot bigger.

Does anybody know how i could find out about agility or obedience clubs nearby?
